Out in the mist

The Ranger’s war is at the fence. Beasts that chase a fleeing Keeper home do not give up — they camp your fence line and wait. A Ranger posted to the Watchtower volleys arrows at them, clearing campers half again as fast as any other guard, and both its Attack stat and the tower’s level quicken the volleys. Out walking, it picks off what follows you before it arrives; the Ranger’s whole philosophy is that the best doorstep fight is the one that ends forty feet from the doorstep.

At home

Its station is the Guard Post, holding the wall. The Watchtower it mans also sharpens your egg-finding luck by 5% per level, which makes a good Ranger quietly responsible for both your safety and a slice of your egg income — the only guard in the Hollow that pays rent. If you push deep mist regularly, the difference between a manned and unmanned tower is the difference between a skirmish at the fence and a siege.

In the duel

A Ranger fires from long range and kites — arrows across the lanes while backpedaling, and a signature Piercing Shot that rewards a clean line on the target. Played well, a Ranger with a Speed lean almost never eats a hit at all: read the telegraph, step out, answer. It is the archetype for keepers who treat the duel as a marksmanship exercise.

Who should raise one first?

Keepers who push deep. The deeper rings send beasts home after you, and the darkest ones send several. A Ranger on the tower is insurance you only notice the night you need it — and its egg-luck bonus compounds every day in between.

Pairing and bloodlines

A Ranger line is a Speed project. Lane changes, kiting room, racing pace, and even the walk home all ride the same stat, so pair your Ranger with the fastest partner you own and keep the eggs that inherit the spike — past the ⚡150 notch, Speed pays twice and the kiting game becomes almost unfair. Matching traits pass on guaranteed, and an accuracy-flavored trait locked into a Ranger dynasty compounds every generation. The happy accidents matter too: a Ranger egg that rolls Crafting instead is your next forage-run skimmer, not a failure.
